Glasgow City Heliport (ICAO: EGEG) is a heliport located in Glasgow, Scotland, approximately 1.5 mi (2.4 km) from the City Centre. The Heliport is located at Stobcross Quay, within the grounds of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre and directly across the River Clyde from the Glasgow Science Centre and BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay Studios.
The Heliport is owned and operated by Bond Air Services[1] and is the operating base for the Strathclyde Police air support unit (Victor Mike 7-0) and The Scottish Ambulance Service Helimed 5 helicopter. These units are operated by Bond under contract and both consist of a Eurocopter EC-135. The heliport can also handle an amount of passenger traffic too, especially during major events at the nearby SECC. The ground facilities consist of a large maintenance hangar building and parking for 5 small to medium sized helicopters.
Aircraft permanently operating from Glasgow City Heliport are:
Due to development proposals for the SECC & surrounding area including construction of a hotel, casino and associated parking there is a requirement to relocate the heliport, with a site near the South entrance to the Clyde Tunnel being the preffered option. Planning permission is currently being sought to develop a derelict site situated between Linthouse Road and Holmfauld Road in Govan, Glasgow.[2]
